MALMESBURY Carnival has had a £2,000 cash injection from vacuum cleaner manufacturer Dyson.
The company founded by multimillionaire James Dyson, employs 1,200 workers at its Malmesbury plant and has given the money to sponsor this year's carnival procession.
Last year the carnival celebrated its 50th consecutive year but has had to reduce the money it has given to charities from previous years because of a fall in donations.
Carnival secretary Mark Lawton said the money would cover costs, meaning money raised on the day would go straight to good causes. Beneficiaries this year include Dorothy House Hospice and the North Wiltshire Branch of The Alzheimer's Society.
He said: "We are very pleased. It is going to make a huge difference for us and I hope it will put Dyson in a positive light in the town."
Anyone who would like to help with sponsorship can ring Mr Lawton on (01666) 822003. The festivities kick off with a revue by the Athelstan Players on August 21 with the procession scheduled for August 30.
