WITH the first sign of sun for the season, Marlborough skipper Tom Norris lost the toss and his team were asked to field in sweltering conditions.
First time visitors Woodmancote took advantage of a good playing surface to notch up an impressive 228 for six from their 45 overs. Top scorer was Staff with 70 before he became one of Peter Mathias' four victims.
He was ably assisted by Gibbons with 33, Reah with 39 not out and a very purposeful 48 from Webb which effectively put the game out of Marlborough's reach.
George Fox took two for 71, Ben Head bowled 12 tight overs conceding only 36 runs and Mathias finished with four for 61, with Webb spoiling his figures late on.
Nathan Morgan bowled well without success and Sean Williams bowled two overs without any luck.
Having toiled all afternoon in the hot sunshine, the batting effort from Marlborough was very disappointing. Skipper Tom Norris was hard pushed to find an answer with his team rocking at 33 for six and the pick of the batsmen already back in the changing room.
Nathan Morgan decided he would make good use of the large number of overs still remaining and made an impressive 28 before he was out. The tailenders ensured that the 100 was passed but with an all out total of 109 it was not a day the team will wish to remember, with only 34 overs used.
A better all round effort will be required against newly promoted Box this Saturday. With the season already five weeks gone, only a victory will satisfy the skipper.
