TALENTED ten-year-old Matthew Wright from Poulshot has just been admitted as a chorister at Salisbury Cathedral.
Matthew's road to success began when he saw an advertisement in the Gazette for choristers at his parish church and joined the choir at St John's Church, Devizes, where choirmaster Jon Ridings recognised and nurtured his talents.
Matthew attended Salisbury Cathedral choir's open day, which made him determined to become a chorister.
Mr Ridings coached him in preparation for his audition at the cathedral, as a result of which he was offered a place as a probationer, or learner chorister, and started singing with the choir last September.
Then last week he became a fully fledged member of the choir, which has a 900-year history.
Matthew's mother Karen said: "We were all so proud watching him admitted as a chorister during Evensong at the weekend and are extremely grateful he has this wonderful opportunity."
Matthew himself is equally pleased. He said: "The singing is fun, being part of the choir is great. I've made lots of friends already and the music is really good. Everything is great even school."
