POLICE are appealing for any witnesses to a road rage attack on a lone woman driver at Berwick Bassett on Friday, May 30.
She was left shaken up after a man jumped out of a car in front of her at traffic lights, opened the driver's door of her Range Rover and abused the woman before damaging her vehicle.
The attack occurred at about 11.30am on the A4361 Swindon-Devizes Road at traffic lights where council contractors are laying new kerbs.
Sgt Steve McGrath, of Marlborough police, said the woman who lives in the Avebury area had been overtaken in an aggressive manner by a man driving a Vauxhall Zafira.
She had responded to what she considered to be dangerous driving by flashing her headlights.
Both cars were brought to a halt by red traffic lights whereupon the Vauxhall driver got out of his car and went back to the Range Rover.
Sgt McGrath said: "He was very aggressive and abusive, opened the door of the Range Rover and started punching out at the vehicle."
The woman driver had been attempting to write down the Vauxhall's registration when the driver knocked the £1,000 Cartier fountain pen from her hand and kicked it across the road.
He also punched the Range Rover wing mirror causing damage.
Police want to hear from anyone who saw the manner in which the Vauxhall Zafira was being driven, the manner in which it had been overtaking and also from any other drivers who saw the incident at the traffic lights.
Officers are not naming the woman driver because she fears possible reprisals if her identity is made known.
Anyone with information is ask to contact Sgt McGrath at Marlborough police station on (01672) 512311.
