WITH regard to the letter from Mr Theo Godfrey, May 22. Firstly, I would like to thank Mr Godfrey for his kind comments about the Council, in general, giving value for money.
I can confirm that the prepaid green sacks are collected along with black sacks and at present all this waste goes to landfill. The Council introduced a charge in 1991 to encourage householders to compost their garden waste and thereby minimise the amount collected.
The preferred option is for householders to compost their garden waste and compost bins are available at £16 each from the Council at Enterprise Works Tel. 616288.
The Government has set a target for Swindon Council to recycle 30 per cent of its municipal waste by the year 2003-4. The option of making a separate collection of green waste from households is being considered as part of the Municipal Waste Management Strategy .
