POLICE officers investigating a series of arson attacks in Westbury are back on their guard after two more fires in the town this week.
In the early hours of Saturday morning, a wheelie bin was torched in Edward Street, while at 2.55am on Thursday a car was set on fire on the West Wilts Trading Estate.
Operation 'Conifer' was launched after a series of 49 arson attacks in Westbury in the spring. The arsonist's trademark was to target trees, rubbish and wheelie bins in the centre of Westbury.
Wiltshire police made an arrest in connection with the arsons in May, but this week's incidents are worrying for them. They say it could be a 'copy-cat' crime.
Leading operation Conifer, DS Andy Cross said: "When you have a series of fires like we did in Westbury there are likely to be 'one-offs' like this, but we have not ruled out the fact that they might be linked.
"We have to keep an open mind if we are to solve the problem."
