AN Angry motorist left a pensioner and his wife stranded after snatching their car keys.

Justin Trigwell, 31, a Beeline coach driver, rowed with Brian Webb, 68, who has a pacemaker, on the Salisbury-Warminster road one night last July.

Prosecutor Mark Hollier told Swindon crown court Mr Webb tried overtaking but each time he tried to pass, Trigwell sped up.

He said: "Mr Trigwell was of the view Mr Webb was driving badly. When the cars came to a halt there was a minor bump where no damage was done. Mr Trigwell got out and went to Mr Webb's car. In temper he extracted the keys. They were then lost."

Trigwell, of Fell Road, Westbury, admitted common assault. He denied theft of the keys and was cleared.

James Newton-Price, defending, said: "Mr Trigwell concedes he did become a little irate. He had his wife in the passenger seat and she was eight and a half months' pregnant."

Trigwell must pay £480 compensation and costs. He was given a six month conditional discharge.
