A SPATE of car break-ins at a Warminster beauty spot have prompted police to reissue warnings over the dangers of leaving valuables on show.

Cley Hill car park has been hit by a string of thefts from cars as visitors to the beauty spot fail to follow simple crime prevention guidelines.

The latest incident was at the weekend when a 30-year-old man from Aldershot returned to his vehicle to find thieves had broken in.

Nothing was taken but police said too often motorists forget to follow the rules and leave valuables on show or doors and windows open.

Police spokesman Steve Coxhead said criminals target beauty spots like Cley Hill to capitalise on the influx of unsuspecting tourists.

He said: "We always see a rise in break-ins during the summer weather.

"It is not just the law abiding people who enjoy the fine weather the criminals take advantage of it as well.

"Although it may be inconvenient to remove all valuables from the car it is more inconvenient if your car gets broken into.

"In particular this advice needs to be heeded when cars are parked in isolated sites like Cley Hill."
