A 15-year-old dancer from Trowbridge has been picked to star in an opera at Iford Manor at the end of this month.

Rachel Davies will play the young Ginevra in Handel's opera Ariodante which is being performed in the gardens of the Grade I manor house, opening on June 24.

Rachel is currently studying for her GCSEs, but took time out on Friday for a trial run in the gardens where she will do her two-minute dance.

A pupil at the Morphew School of Dance in Trowbridge, she has been dancing since she was four and is very excited about her first major ballet role.

She said: "There is a part in the opera when the star looks back to her past, when she was 13 and just learning ballet, and that's the part I will play.

"It is so beautiful at Iford Manor, and it will be a really stunning place to dance."

The London-based Early Opera Company are to provide the music, and the part of Ginevra will be played by renowned opera singer, Mhairi Lawson.
