THE arrival of a baby girl caused quite a stir on Friday when she put in an unexpected appearance at the roadside on the way to hospital.

Little Chloe Louise Evans was born in an ambulance near Sally in the Woods at 2am when her mother, Sarah Strysznyk, was being transferred from Trow-bridge Hospital to the Royal United Hospital in Bath.

Proud dad Grant Evans, who lives with Miss Strysznyk in Trowbridge, was following behind the ambulance.

He said: "I pulled over behind the ambulance and within seconds of us stopping you could see the head.

"It was an experience I won't forget. It was certainly not something I had expected."

Miss Strysznyk went into labour on Thursday and arrived at Trowbridge Hospital at 9pm, expecting to deliver her baby at the maternity unit there.

The baby's heart rate was dipping while Miss Strysznyk was in labour and it was decided to carry out a transfer to the RUH but Chloe couldn't wait and put in an appearance just 20 minutes later.

Mr Evans said: "She was due on May 15 but was late, then we had this last minute panic when she arrived faster than everyone thought."

The baby was born weighing 7lb 4oz, with no signs of being any the worse for wear after her unusual birth.

Little Chloe is the couple's second child together and their first daughter.

They already have a three-year-old son, Cameron, and Mr Evans has two children, Stacey, 11, and nine-year-old Paul, from a previous relationship.

He said: "They have been to see the baby and they loved her. They think she is absolutely great."

The couple were allowed to take their daughter home on Saturday.

Miss Strysznyk has given up her job with Airsprung Beds to spend time at home with her children.

Mr Evans, who works at G-Plan Upholstery in Melksham, returned to work this week.
