Memories were rekindled for Harry Fox when the Prince of Wales opened a teashop which was his first home.
Mr Fox, 76, of Trowbridge, toured the new Kennet and Avon Canal shop at Bradford Wharf, which belonged to his grandparents and was his home for the first two years of his life. His grandfather, George Andrews, was the lock-keeper.
Mr Fox said: "My grandmother made ice-cream and lemonade and sold sweets, tobacco and bait.
"I can remember sitting on my uncle's knee in the cottage and him playing the accordion. My grandmother had a shop in the cottage and it was always very cramped, different to how it is now."
Many of the memories that the visit brought up were painful ones for Mr Fox. His Uncle Harry left the cottage in 1914 to join the troopship to India to fight in the war. He was taken prisoner in Baghdad and never returned.
When Prince Charles visited Bradford on Avon on May 23, Prince Charles unveiled a plaque at the new shop, marking the completion of 50 years of renovation of the Kennet and Avon Canal.
