A PARK and fly shuttle service is to be used at Kemble airfield during the Royal International Air Tattoo weekend.
The idea is part of a new scheme to help sort out the traffic congestion which plagued the event last year.
The two-day air show held in July attracted around 200,000 people to RAF Fairford.
But the roads around Fairford were gridlocked and there were long tailbacks on routes from the M4 and M40.
The introduction of airport type security checks at all airfield entrances were also blamed for adding to delays and causing queues.
Events co-ordinator at Kemble airfield, Glen Moreman, said: "Last year we had quite a lot of people fly in here from Germany and Switzerland just to go to the air tattoo.
"As this is the nearest airfield to Fairford we thought we could expand this a bit more.
"People will be able to drive or fly in here and then fly to Fairford before the start of the RIAT."
A DC3 Dakota, which seats 30 people, and a Dove, which seats seven, will be used.
Mr Moreman said: "We are expecting to do three or four flights with each aeroplane."
Flights to the RIAT will start at 8am and finish at 9.45am. Return flights will take place after the show has finished in the early evening.
But county councillor for the Minety division, Carole Soden said she was worried about the impact the service would have on villages near Kemble.
She said: "I am concerned because some of the residents in my parish are pretty upset with the airfield at the moment."
But Mr Moreman said the impact on nearby villages would be minimal.
He said: "The air activity will probably be less than that of a normal day's flying because the aircraft will fly in and stay for the weekend."
Tickets cost £80 and must be booked in advance from Air Atlantique or Mayfair Dove Aviation.
