ANDY KING will try to bring Dean Marney back to the County Ground for a second spell.

The young Tottenham Hotspur defender impressed the Town boss with his performances during a two-month loan stint last season.

King hopes Spurs boss Glenn Hoddle will be receptive to the idea of allowing Marney a further chance to gain first team experience at the County Ground.

He said: "I spoke to Dean Marney the other day, as I have a couple of times since his time with us at Swindon.

"It's nice when young players keep in touch. I hope it shows they have enjoyed their spell here.

"Jimmy Davis, another success here, has been to watch our games since going back to Manchester United.

"As for Marney, I admit he is one of the names on my 'list' and I will be making a call to Tottenham about him."

When Marney returned to Tottenham in February, King hinted that Town supporters might not have seen the last of the player.

At the time the County Ground boss said the door had not been completely closed on a possible loan return.

Whether it would be a long or short term loan is unclear, and King does not yet know whether Hoddle would be prepared to let his young star go.

Marney left the County Ground with a ringing endorsement, King hailing the 18-year-old's 'attitude, desire, ideas and energy'.

King also admitted he would have loved to offer the player a two-year contract had he not been a Spurs player.

However, with Premiership clubs not reporting back for duty until mid-July, Premiership loan deals are not King's immediate priority.

The prime task remains the recruitment of seven or eight recognised first team players.

King will not be rushed into bringing in bodies and is anxious that any future successes are his successes, and that any failures can also be laid largely at his door.

He said: "Yes, I listen to trusted friends and contacts about players, but ideally I want to have watched them or know something about them.

"That was the case with Sam Parkin last year.

"Others chose not to pursue him but having watched him several times, I felt he could score goals for my team."

A reminder that Town's youth department is looking for help to finance two summer tours.
