Now, I don't actually know if it really is London's top nosh joint, but in terms of power lunching in the City's Square Mile, TwentyFour certainly boasts the right geography.
Situated on, surprisingly enough, the 24th floor of what was and undoubtedly still is referred to as the NatWest Tower (it's now officially called Tower 42), TwentyFour is one supremely powerful showcase for all that affluent dining should be.
Frankly, unless you're in high finance, commerce or Industry and 'Industry' you'll notice I've spelt with a capital 'I' you'll feel a little out of place because everyone wears blue. The width of their stripes may differ, but blue in all its shades is the uniform.
Typically, I wore green.
However, despite this issue of tinting and shading, my guest and I were treated royally.
It's worth pointing out that the views here are simply breathtaking.
Forget the Post Office Tower and the London Eye sitting in this restaurant is like standing, or sitting, on top of the world.
As you slice your way through the finest of beef fillets, you gaze out across a business portfolio worth billions. And that aura of power and wealth is nothing vague.
It's there, in your face, and boy is it electric.
The restaurant may be open to the general public, but I couldn't ever imagine it attracting diners wanting to commemorate, say, Mother's Day. Here, all conversation is about mergers and acquisitions and giddying analysis of what New York was up to earlier that morning.
Personally I loved it, and certainly if I wanted to impress a potential business customer, I'd bring them here.
The service is impeccable without being remote, the setting about as perfect as you can imagine, and the food simply stunning.
Our meal for two, which included just a main course each, a few drinks and coffee came to, including service, £98.16. Which believe you me is very good for London.
TwentyFour is open Monday to Friday, between 11.45am and 2.30pm for lunch, and again at 6pm to 9pm for dinner.
You MUST make a reservation, as security is impeccably tight (I almost had to change out of my trousers to get through the building's security screen). Tel: 020 7877 2424.
