THE Wiltshire Football League has been boosted by a three-season sponsorship deal with Swindon-based business Plaister Autos.
A slightly re-vamped league will now be known as the Plaister Autos Wiltshire League, taking over from previous sponsors Skurrays.
Chris Plaister, owner of Plaister Autos, said: "I am very pleased to be able to sponsor the league.
"I have been involved in local football for a good many years and ran Chiseldon when they were in the Wiltshire League.
"I hope the sponsorship will be as successful as the previous one with Skurrays, and I will be having a chat with the committee to perhaps sponsor a fair play award at some time."
Eight new sides will join the league for the 2003/4 season helping to form part of a new-look Junior Division.
The Junior Division will be split into two Junior Division One and Junior Division Two after a decision to suspend Intermediate League football.
A decision to split the Junior Division came after the number of intermediate football clubs in Wiltshire had fallen to just four.
It was unanimously decided by Intermediate clubs that they would revert to junior status and the situation would be reviewed again at the end of the season.
So with Intermediate football suspended for a season, Junior Division One and Two clubs will play in the Wiltshire Junior Cup next season.
Corsham Print and Fountain Trophies will continue their sponsorship of the cup competitions.
League chairman Dennis Kilford congratulated all last season's league and cup winners, giving a special mention to Trowbridge Town, who reached the final of the Wiltshire FA Senior Cup and to Ferndale Rodbourne who reached the Wiltshire FA Junior Cup final.
Further good news was reported by the referees appointment secretary, who told the meeting that the Football Association notified the committee that the league had again been granted supply league status.
It was in 1995 that this status was wrongly removed which left many of our referees having to officiate outside the county.
The secretary thanked Mike Benson and Janie Frampton for supporting and helping the return to status.
Aldbourne FC took the honours in the EC Mills Sportsmanship Trophy, topping the Premier Division table with their reserve side heading the junior section.
Biddestone Reserves picked up the Intermediate Division award.
The Secretary's Award was won by Maureen Withers, secretary of Shrewton United.
