THE Mechanics' Institute must be a music venue/concert hall for Swindon.
I have been to six large rock/pop concerts this year in other towns (Bristol, Oxford, Bournemouth, London).
Taking away my travel expenses I spend on average £120-130 per gig in businesses near to the venue (pubs, clubs, restaurants, shops). That money could be coming into Swindon town centre.
We've all heard the fuddy-duddy attitude of the old school Railway Village residents, but now there are more younger people in the area. Any comments about the noise are ridiculous. Have you ever been in the Railway Village on a Wednesday night when the church bells are ringing? It's not the peaceful area it's made out to be.
Look at how well attended gigs at the Oasis have been recently.
Let's put Swindon on the musical map.
My vision is to see 'Busted live at the Swindon Mechanics' (what a name for a venue nobody will forget it) broadcast live on BBC1. Come on let's do it!
