A CONCERT has been held in memory of a Wootton Bassett couple who died in a road accident last year.
Denise and Richard Rugg were well known in the town for their charity work.
The Wootton Bassett Choral Society performed the concert at St Bartholomew and All Saints Church, including choral works, solos and instrumental numbers, which featured organ, lute and guitar.
The couple had been active members of the Wootton Bassett branch of the Arthritis Research Campaign for more than 20 years.
Proceeds from the concert, which came to more than £280, were donated to the charity.
David Magill, ARC branch president, spoke of the contribution the couple had made to many aspects of life in North Wiltshire.
He said: "This concert is our way of saying thank you Denise and Richard, for all you have done."
Mr and Mrs Rugg were married for almost 57 years and were both aged 81 when they died after an accident at Tetbury Hill.
The Ruggs had moved to Malmesbury in 1996 after living in Brinkworth, Wootton Bassett and Little Somerford, but had continued to participate in Wootton Bassett life.
The couple met in the RAF at Station X in Bletchley Park during the Second World War, where Mrs Rugg had been a codebreaker for the armed services. Later she was a receptionist at Tinkers Lane Surgery.
She was also a founder of the Wootton Bassett Townswomen's Guild and belonged to the WI.
Mr Rugg had worked for Plessey Communications in Swindon. He was a member of the Royal British Legion.
The couple were both members of Wootton Bassett Historical Society.
