YOUNG England goalkeeper Rhys Evans has invited Town to try and bring him 'home' but insists three lions on his shirt and two international clean sheets is proof enough for Andy King to make him a first-choice acquisition.
The 21-year-old Swindonian has spoken to chief executive Mark Devlin and fresh from the Under 21's 2-0 win over Slovakia at the Stadium of Light, said 'the ball's in Swindon's court'.
Evans is adamant that such a stance is not arrogance, merely confidence in his own ability to succeed.
He said: "I have spoken to Swindon and said that I am happy to talk if they are happy to make me a fair offer.
"I would like to think I'd be a good investment as I'm available on a free and at a later date they could sell me on for pure profit."
Town boss Andy King has made it clear that no-one walks into his team but Evans feels the backing of David Platt combined with his international appearances is proof that he is a worthy number one.
He said: "I want first team football and although I don't have a club at the moment, there are several possibilities for me. If I'd had a stinker against Slovakia then who knows what my situation could have been?
"To be fair, there were clubs in the frame before that game but obviously a decent performance for England doesn't do you any harm.
"I had some very 'interesting' phone calls following the Slovakia game. We'll see what happens.
"There is a deal to be done with someone.
"I enjoyed the match and I've just been watching the recording on television. Getting an early save under my belt was a big confidence-booster."
Two clean sheets (the first interrupted by injury last week) has given the Swindon keeper a happy end to a bitter-sweet couple of weeks.
He said: "The letter from David Platt telling me I had been selected for England arrived in the same bundle of post as Chelsea's 'thanks for all your efforts' letter.
"I'm going to frame them and hang them side by side."
As for the Town perspective, Mark Devlin believes the prospects of Evans returning home are not fantastic.
He said: "A goalkeeper is not a pressing priority for us but I have spoken to Rhys Evans this week.
"Fraser Digby worked with him during their spell together at Queens Park Rangers and was very complimentary about him.
"Rhys has made it clear that he would be looking to start as number one at a club, something we cannot guarantee, and we could not match the salary he was on at Chelsea.
"His representatives are away at the moment but I will be speaking to them when they return."
