CAMPAIGNERS in Shertson have accused BT of moving the goalposts in their fight to bring broadband to the village.
Sherston Business Group reached the 200 registrations BT said it needed before a feasibility study could be conducted two weeks ago.
But BT has told the campaigners they are linked to the Hullavington exchange and 200 registrations would have posted there before BT will consider bringing the new technology to Sherston.
There are currently only 76 registrations for Hullavington.
Group spokesman Irene Johnston said they were angered by BT's change of heart.
She said: "We are very disappointed about this. We have worked very hard to reach 200 registrations and for BT to move the goal post like this is extremely unfair."
The 200 registrations in Sherston represented 20 per cent of BT's fixed line customers and well above the five per cent average registration in other parts of the country, said Ms Johnston.
The group is now looking at ways to fight the BT decision. She said: "We are considering our options at the moment but there maybe ways to get Broadband without BT and the need for fixed lines, that may get their notice."
