CHIPPENHAM comfortably overcame a weakened Westbury side in the first round of the Portman National under 15s club championship.
Openers Tim Rowson (59 not out) and Liam Dawson (45) gave Chippenham a solid foundation with an opening partnership of 90 in 15 overs. Adam Croutear also contributed a rapid 33 not out to take Chippenham to an imposing 148 for one in their 20 overs.
Opening bowler Phil Adams (two for nine) then made early inroads into the Westbury batting.
The other Chippenham bowlers were all very accurate and Westbury were soon well behind the required run rate. Tom Bowler and Liam Dawson each took two wickets as Westbury finished on 61 for seven to leave Chippenham winners by 87 runs.
Chippenham play Wootton Bassett in the second round at home on Thursday June 19.
