WILTSHIRE CRICKET LEAGUE: THE last two unbeaten sides in Division One had their colours lowered on Saturday, with Westinghouse and Biddestone both losing.
Westinghouse visited Purton and thanks to Chris Ferris (63 not out) and Paul Bailey (32) closed on 165 for five.
Purton in reply were struggling on 46 for four before mark Gardener (84 not out), ably supported by Simon Pugh (46 not out) steered them home to a six wicket victory with five overs in hand.
Biddestone entertained Calne and were bowled out for 165, with Chris Downham (3-22) and Rob Anstey (3-34) the pick of the Calne bowlers. It could have been much worse for Biddestone but for another fine innings from Dwaine Perry (84).
Lea Bates (59 not out) then led a measured reply and although Gordon Mackrell took four for 50 in 13 overs he could not prevent Calne gaining a four wicket victory off the last ball and taking over at the top of the table.
Nationwide House entertained winless Beanacre and some accurate bowling restricted them to 126 for nine, with Mark Flay taking five for 45 in 13 overs. Paul Sherwood (50) and Kevin Flay (57 not out) then saw Nationwide knock the runs off in 25 overs for the loss of one wicket.
Collingbourne bowled visiting Potterne out for 128, with Barry Langfield taking five for 24 in 11.2 overs and Jason Addis three for 36 in 10 overs.
Tom Edmunds (44) and Graham Chandler (44 not out) then helped the home side to a six wicket success with 11 overs in hand.
Bath Civil Service slipped up at home to Burbage and ER. After bowling them out for 113 they could then only manage 105 for nine in reply. In the Burbage innings Pete Amor (29) and Richard Ruck (31) top scored against some accurate bowling, led by Trevor Purchase (4-29 in 12 overs) and Paul Wood (3-41 in 15).
Civil Service then found runs equally hard to get with only Richard Carlin (29) and Rob Reid (24) helping them to 105 for nine in their allotted overs. Tony Wheeler, with three for 23 in 10 overs, was the pick of a steady Burbage attack.
Division Two
ONLY 24 points cover the top seven sides.
At Cherhill visiting Great Bedwyn were dismissed for 115, George Stone (30) top scoring as Ed Harrison took five for 20 in 11.2 overs. Sam Tuttle responded with three for 30 in 11.1 overs but 42 not out from Mark Gresham helped Cherhill to a six wicket win.
In a local derby at Swindon Civil Service, visitors Highworth were bowled out for 121, Nick Money taking four for 30 in 10.3 overs. Shaun Smith (59) and Mike Giddings (52 not out) then ensured an easy passage to a nine wicket win for the Civil Service with 22 overs to spare.
Thanks mainly to Bob Fernandez (42), Buscot Park scored 175 for eight at Urchfont, who they then bowled out for 107 as Rob Owen took five for 19 in 10 overs.
Division Three
WROUGHTON Wranglers continue to lead the way following their comfortable 91 run home win against Heytesbury.
Hendy Alleyne 69, Mike Evans (64 not out) and Mark Nettlefold (56) helped them to 238 for three. Hendy then took three for 38 in 14 overs and Mark McMeekin two for18 in 15 miserly overs to restrict the Heytesbury reply to 147 for eight.
Second placed Seagry entertained Blunsdon and made 178 all out, with Adam Lawrence (64) top scoring. For Blunsdon Nick Lancaster took three for 46 in 15 overs and Kevin Aubrey three for 47 in 15.
When they batted Blunsdon found runs hard to come by against an accurate attack led by William Tidmarsh, with four for 26 in 15 overs and Ian Thurgood, three for 50 in 15 and were bowled out for 120.
At Swindon visiting Bathford scored 173 for nine, with Paul Jackson (39) top scoring and Paul Clark taking three for 43 in 11 overs for the home side's 3rds Paul Merrett then took three for 27 in eight overs and despite 46 from Aaron Dickinson Swindon were dismissed for 139, losing by 34 runs.
Dauntsey Gentlemen travelled to Wanborough and made 171 for eight, thanks to Tony Summers (57), James Smith (44) and Craig Edenborough (32). For Wanborough Andy Clinning, with four for 40, was the pick of the bowlers. Edenborough then took three for 26 in 15 tight overs and despite 51 from Mike Pethick and Dave Haydon (30) Wanborough managed only 113 for nine in their reply.
At Moredon Royal Oak visitors Spye Park made 175 for seven, with Andy Ellis making 50 and John Haines 34 as Ian Morton took three for 44 in seven overs for Moredon. In an exciting finish Moredon then ended on 175 for nine at the end of their overs with Phil Morton (41) and Tim Saint (31 not out) the major scorers and Tom Harding taking three for 55 in his 15 overs.
Division Four
AVEBURY bowled out Warminster 3rds for 154 and proceded to knock the runs off in 20 overs for the loss of four wickets.
Lambourn were given a tough match at home by Bradford Town before emerging victorious by two runs. Lambourn made 195 for five, with Ian Hobbs (34), Paul Annetts (41) and DanBousher (32) the major contributors.
With Craig Warren making 46 and Richard Powell 30, Bradford were always in the hunt but fell agonisingly short as their last wicket went down off the last ball with their total on 195. Annetts took three for 40 in 15 overs.
Division Five
BUSCOT Park 2nds and Burbage and ER 2nds lead the way in this Division.
Purton 2nds visited Buscot and scored 164 for seven, with a fine 100 not out from Dave Allen and Willy Townsend taking four for 53 in 14 overs. In reply Adrian Morbey (53 not out) helped Buscot to a three wicket win with seven balls to spare.
Burbage entertained United Churches and thanks to Paul Swatton (64), Roger Cope (33) and Peter Street (29) closed on 189 for seven. Neil Lang, with 3-42 in 15 overs, was Churches' most successful bowler. Adam Rumnold then made 41 not out but with Paul taking three for 26 in eight overs and Dan Swatton two for 17 in seven, Churches were dismissed for 147.
Nettleton have made a good start to their season and thanks to Graham Witt (86) they were able to end on 201 for four at Keevil, who were then bowled out for 94 in reply.
Litten Tree entertained Chippenham 3rds and emerged with a 21 run win. Litten Tree made 159, with Rob Mercer (56) and Steve King (19) the major contributors . For Chippenham John Haines bowled well to end with five for 52 in 13 overs.
Ray Bullen's 66 was just not enough when Chippenham batted and with Julian Brown taking three for 26 in 14 overs and Matty Dunn three for 16 in three overs they were bowled out for 138 in the 41st over.
Devizes 3rds played host to Lavington who made 169 all out, with Mark Hulse (39), John Wiltshire (32) and Phil Hughes (33) the major scorers and Barry Read taking three for 34. Wiltshire followed up with bowling figures of five for 52 but with Rich Read (46) and Nigel Worthy (45) Devizes also made 169.
Division Six
BIDDESTONE 2nds remain unbeaten and head the Division.
At Calne 2nds they scored 186 all out, with Anthony Christopher (48) and Graham Court (36) the top scores. For Calne Danny Knights took for for 53 in 13 overs and Scott Shepherd three for 45 in 11. In reply Alan Munch took six for 12 in 10 overs and Calne were all out for 151, Danny Knights making 51.
Westinghouse 2nds entertained Lacock and scored 176 all out, with Paul Grace making 39 not out and Mike Day 29. For Lacock Alex Doel took five for 24 in 14 overs and John Heath three for 29 in eight.
Lacock's batting then collapsed and they could manage only 43 all out as Andy Day took seven for 22 in 12.5 overs and John Haines two for 17 in 11.
Cooper-Avon Tyres 2nds were bowled out for 57 by visiting Nationwide House 2nds, with Alan Lewis taking five for 29 in 12.3 overs. Nationwide went on on to win by six wickets.
All Cannings gained their first win in a close fought game at Trowbridge A. A fine 97 by Richard Holman helped All Cannings to 194 for nine as Dave Kemp took five for 51 in 15 overs. Kim Ryalls then took three for 33 in ten overs and despite 39 from skipper David Gibson, Trowbridge fell 11 runs short of victory on 184 for nine.
Goatacre 3rds scored a useful 201 for eight at home to Wootton Bassett 3rds, with Andy Sandell making an unbeaten 51 and Richard Grigg 41. For Bassett Ben Thurkell took three for 40 in 15 overs. In reply Thurkell hit a fine 99, and with 58 not out from Geoff Belager Bassett gained a six wicket success with five balls to spare.
Division Seven
BRADFORD Town 2nds lead the way following a four wicket home success against formerly unbeaten Cherhill 2nds.
Potterne 2nds rattled up 228 for four with all their batsmen making useful contributions against Masrhfield 3rds. David Evans (42), Paul Stevens (40 not out) Brendan Baker (38) and Ashley Wrench (390 were the leading scorers.
Baker then took four for 43 in 15 overs and Tony Bayes four for 48 in 15 as Marshfield were bowled out for 98.
Division Eight
CORSHAM 4ths retained their unbeaten record at the expense of Highworth 2nds.
Highworth were bowled out for 85 as Mike Hicks took three for 22 in 12 overs and Graham Ings three for 13 in 10, only Darren Robbins, with a gritty 37, offering much resistance. Mike Unwin (43) then saw Corsham home by eight wickets.
The meeting of the two sides still looking for a first success ended in a comprehensive win for All Cannings 2nds at the expense of Devizes 4ths. All Cannings, thanks to Andy Legg (92) made 193 all out. Legg took seven for eight in 7.4 overs as Devizes subsided to 59 all out.
At Bathford 2nds John Higgs (43) top scored in a home total of 144 for six against Swindon 4ths, with Mushtach taking three for 30 in 15 overs. Mel Grant's unbeaten 65 then saw Swindon to a comfortable six wicket victory.
Collingbourne 2nds visited Chippenham 4ths and gained a narrow eight run win. Ed Oldroy (52), Dave Gale (32) and John Reese (39) helped them to 185 for seven.
In response, Gavin Smith (44), Andy Dyer (26) and Daniel Young (25) always kept Chippenham in the hunt, but finally the overs ran out with their reply on 177 for nine.
