SWINDON CANNCER APPEAL: STAFF at Nationwide had a ball and hope to have raised hundreds of pounds for Macmillan Cancer Relief in the process.

Workers at the building society's Pipers Way headquarters held a softball tournament last night where five teams from the company's personnel and operations department battled it out on a specially made court.

Most of the company's staff came to watch the event, which was followed by barbeque and raffle.

The event was one of a number planned this year to raise funds for the company's flagship charity Macmillan Cancer Relief the same charity being backed by the Evening Advertiser's Swindon Cancer Appeal, which aims to raise £600,000 over three years to fund two full time cancer nurse specialists.

Nationwide has had a 10-year relationship with Macmillan and raised more than £3 million for the charity through a variety of events like sponsored silences and coffee mornings and. And it was Nationwide that helped kick start the Advertiser's Swindon Cancer Appeal with a generous donation of £80,000.
