POLICE operators have moved into Wiltshire's new joint emergency control centre and begun working there.
The £7 million centre, built alongside Wiltshire police's headquarters in London Road, Devizes, will comprise operators from Wiltshire police, ambulance service and fire brigade.
The first half of the police operators from Westlea Police Station in Swindon moved in last week.
Control room staff from the ambulance service based in Chippenham will move into the building on June 24.
The rest of the police control room staff will transfer from police headquarters in Devizes at the end of July.
The Fire Brigades Union has backed down in its dispute with the fire service and fire control operators will move from their headquarters in Potterne to the new control centre in October or November this year.
The fire operators will be separated from police and ambulance staff by a glass screen.
Derek Robertson, the manager of the joint emergency control centre, said: "The initial reaction from the police operators who have already moved in is that they are really happy with the new facility and have settled in extremely well."
