AN ancient milestone on the outskirts of Amesbury needs to be preserved, town councillors were told last week.
The eighteenth century stone slab, on Stonehenge Road, is in desperate need of restoration before its markings are lost forever.
Cllr Rosemarie Williams said: "We need to keep it for Amesbury and conserve it.
"We have got a unique area and are losing so much of the things we should keep.
"Surely some of these things ought to be saved as tourist attractions and part of our heritage?"
Clerk of Amesbury town council, Howard Piner, told the Journal the council would be looking into the matter.
