I sympathise with the letter entitled Lessons for School in the Gazette on May 29.
I wholeheartedly agree with the writer that Dunstan and the other schools in Calne are a credit to the pupils and their head teachers. The problem is not of Fynamore's making but the Government's.
By stating parents have the choice of schools as long as there is a vacancy for them.
With new schools such as Fynamore in Calne, Paxcroft Mead in Hilperton and Nursteed in Devizes; there are 100 per cent available places when you open. The LEA cannot reserve places for catchment area children. When children are accepted out of catchment area they are informed that siblings will not automatically have a place.
I find it ridiculous parents are juggling getting children to schools away from their catchment area and themselves to work, when they could walk to their nearest school.
The Government appears to be contradicting itself by allowing parents the choice of where to send their children to school and endorsing a green transport policy for all schools.
