Great to hear that Swindon is keeping that great trainspotting tradition alive!
While growing up in Swindon during the late 1950s and early 1960s, we used to take the old GWR railcars from New Town around the corner to Swindon Old Town. I think it cost us nine old pennies. We did it so we could go slowly past the railway works and get the numbers of all the new locos and those in for repair!
I remember in later teenage school years, being taken by the teachers at Sanford Boys School on a trip around the works so we could evaluate getting an apprenticeship there !
Forty years on and my son and I go train spotting together here in Arizona. But not this weekend it's going to be 110 degrees in the desert!
