THE PERFORMANCE of a young Wiltshire actress is stopping traffic in a multi-million dollar Hollywood blockbuster being shot in Bath.

Romola Garai, 21, from Calne and a former pupil at Stonar School, Atworth, stars in the $18m Hollywood movie, Vanity Fair.

From midnight on Monday night, traffic around Great Pulteney Street in Bath was diverted so movie scenes could be shot.

The Hollywood movie is based on the book by William Thackerey and head of English at Stonar School, Linda Jones said: "Romola always showed an interest in Victorian novels and would read many of her own volition. She would go out of her way to read a lot of books out of class."

To recreate 1840s London, cars and pedestrians have been refused access to Great Pulteney Street, Edward Street, William Street, Sydney Place, Sydney Road and Darlington Street while filming takes place.

Miss Garai shot to fame playing the heroine in BBC costume drama, Daniel Deronda last year. She has previously appeared alongside Dame Judi Dench in Last of the Blonde Bombshells and has just finished shooting a sequel to Dirty Dancing called Havana Nights. Appearing with her are movie superstars Bob Hoskins, Rhys Ifans, Gabriel Byrne and Jim Broadbent.
