A parked car caused a traffic jam which stopped drivers getting into the centre of Trowbridge on Thursday.
The driver of a maroon Ford Mondeo parked his car for half an hour on double yellow lines outside the Halifax building society in Silver Street, on the one way system.
Police were called and the driver finally moved the car just metres down the road. He received a £30 fixed penalty notice for parking illegally.
The tailback was caused when the Mondeo prevented a bus turning right from Church Street.
Among the vehicles held up was a fire engine, prompting fears that an emergency call had been slowed.
Insp John Tapper, of Trowbridge police, said: "Parking in the town centre on double yellow lines is a concern for the police and other bodies such as the town council.
"Even people allowed to park there must park sensibly."
