A ROAD in Brinkworth will be closed to allow a river crossing to be strengthened.
Brinkworth Bridge on School Hill is due to close on June 23 and it is expected the work by Wiltshire County Council will take 12 weeks.
During this time School Hill will be closed for about 50 metres either side of the bridge. A diversionary route along the C109, Sodom Lane, Callow Hill, the B4042 and The Street will be signposted.
The work to replace the two span stone-arched bridge is because it does not meet current standards.
Principal engineer David Weston said: "The road at the bridge is narrow and it is not possible to carry out this work without temporarily closing the road.
"I appreciate this will cause some inconvenience locally and our contractor will do its best to ensure the work is completed as quickly as possible. In any case the contractor is aware that school buses must be able to get through at the start of the new school year in September.
"A temporary pedestrian route will be kept open through the site during the work."
