YOUNG bowlers from Wiltshire some not yet in their teens played Oxfordshire in an under 25 friendly match at Swindon Bowls Club.
Despite the fact that they were much less experienced than their opponents, they showed great character and resilience as they battled to a creditable five-shot success.
Results
Rink 1: Matthew Gainey (Westinghouse), Nicholas Heenan (Salisbury Victoria), Andrew Deverill (Wilton) and Ian Williams (Purton) beat Shaun Claridge 21-12.
Rink 2: Michael Richards (West End), Steven and Alexander Whittingham (Wroughton) and Jamie Titcombe (Westlecot) lost to Nathan Lewis 19-25.
Rink 3: Adam Marshall (Wootton Bassett), Thomas Warner (Alderbury), Stewart Tait (WB) and Jason White (Marlborough) beat Craig Nicholl 27-16.
Rink 4: Tom Bowden (Spencer Melksham), Ryan Stephens (Wilton), Adam Tanner (Town Gardens) and Daniel Hodges (Bradford-on-Avon) lost to Nick Welsh 17-22.
Rink 5: Steven Cozens and David Leighfield (Alderbury), Andrew Harper and Luke Meehan (Corsham) lost to Lee Young 15-19. Wilts beat Oxon 99-94
