TODAY and for the next three days we tell the stories of three local D-Day veterans, Bill Higgs, Roy Mann and Eddie Brown.
As a society, we tend to associate men of their age with being grandfathers, retirement, and perhaps the occasional end of bowls.
But they were of a generation which faced more horror and bloodshed than few before and none since, and faced it with valour.
We should never forget, and we should never stop being thankful.
