Ref. 25591-39TOMMY MOONEY'S aim is to leave Division Two defenders nursing extremely unpleasant memories from their encounters with him during the coming season.
Doubly bad news for opponents is that he has every intention of inflicting misery alongside a young man with an equal thirst for goals Sam Parkin.
The 31-year-old striker has signed a one-year contract with an option for a second.
He said: "I am confident that I have made the right move and I'm excited by the challenge ahead. I've enjoyed three promotions in the last five years. It's great feeling and I want that again.
"People like Adi Viveash and Sammy Igoe know all about that too and hopefully we can be of help to the younger lads here.
"I think the Second Division will suit my game.
"I don't have a set target of goals for the season but I don't want to be outside the division's leading goalscorers. I'm sure the same applies to Sam Parkin.
"Second Division defenders will know they've played against Tommy Mooney and Sam Parkin goals on the board or not."
Mooney may be in his 30s but he has not joined Town as a stepping stone to a pipe and slippers lifestyle.
He said: "I haven't come here to draw my pension. For the last 12 months I haven't enjoyed my football and I'm determined to put that right.
"A sense of being wanted is a massive part of my reasons for coming to Swindon.
"There was interest from Andy (King) last year but I was under contract at Birmingham.
"That's now been sorted out and I hope this move will prove of benefit to both myself and to Swindon Town."
Although Mooney's new manager attempted to keep a calm head, his delight at landing the experienced forward was all too obvious.
He said: "A lot of people were looking at and talking to Tommy Mooney.
"He received financial offers better than ours and I take it as a great compliment to this football club that he has signed for us.
"I tried to sign him last year, without success, but I'm delighted that we've got him second time round.
"He has not come here for the money, he has come because he wants to enjoy his football and help us achieve success.
"I hope Swindon Town and Tommy Mooney can deliver on both fronts.
"His attitude is superb, his experience, I believe, will help bring on Sam Parkin and he has performed and produced at the highest level.
"Bringing in such players here gives me great hope but I am not about to start saying we'll do this and achieve that."
King knows that the higher the expectation, the longer the drop if matters go wrong.
He said: "Where you finish in the table is how you are judged, simple as that.
"All I know is that Tommy Mooney, along with the signings of people like Adi Viveash and Sammy Igoe, demonstrate progression at this football club."
