Derbyshire's desperate run in the Frizzell County Championship continued when they were routed for their lowest total in five years 89 against Gloucestershire.
The home side were bowled out in 36 overs at Derby with Jonathan Lewis taking six wickets and Ian Harvey three after Dominic Cork had won the toss and chosen to bat.
Craig Spearman soon put conditions into perspective by almost passing Derbyshire's miserable total on his own, and although Gloucestershire suffered a mini-collapse, they ended the day on 214-6 a lead of 125.
The only good news for Derbyshire is that they are unlikely to find themselves facing another pitch panel verdict.
Although the umpires will notify Lord's after the fall of 16 wickets on the first day, it is not thought there was anything sinister in the pitch.
Chris Bassano did get a ball that reared sharply, but yet another first innings failure was down to poor batting and good seam bowling.
Even Derbyshire's top batsman Michael Di Venuto perished to a loose stroke, losing his off-stump as he drove across the line, and most of the others were guilty of poor shot selection.
Only four batsmen got into double figures, and any hopes of a respectable score were snuffed out when three wickets fell with the total on 69.
Lewis had started the slide with three wickets in his first seven overs of a hot steamy morning before finishing with figures of 6-48 his best of the season so far.
