THE fourth Salisbury District Primary Schools Basketball Festival took place at St Edmund's Girls' School and Sports College on Friday, writes Nikki Davies.
Twelve teams from six local schools took part in the tournament, which was organised by Salisbury district council, St Edmund's Sports College and school sports co-ordinators.
Ken Walton (England basketball coach) coached the teams prior to the tournament.
Year 10 students were responsible for umpiring, acting as team coaches, scorers and time keepers on the day.
There were four teams in each pool and the winner of each pool and the best runner up went on to compete for the medals in the second stage - the other teams were put into two other pools where a friendly tournament took place.
The overall winners were St Andrew's Primary School (for the second year running), St Paul's finished second, Idmiston third and St Mark's fourth.
Stratford-sub-Castle's second team were awarded the Fair Play Award.
At the end of the first round all the participants were involved in a shoot out, which was won by a St Andrew's pupil. The pupils then enjoyed watching their teachers take part in a staff shoot out.
Two England International Basketball students from St Edmund's (Alice Walton U16 and Emily Brookfield U15) presented the pupils with their medals and certificates.
A fun day was had by all.
