FORMER soldier Neil Barton carried out a racist attack on a Chinese man, a court heard.
The 28-year-old, who has since left the Hullavington-based 9 Supply Regiment, also admitted two charges of racially aggravated threatening behaviour.
The charges against Barton, of Fazacheley. Liverpool, relate to December 18 last year.
His former colleague Colin Best, who is still in the Army, pleaded not guilty to all three charges.
The 22-year-old, of Peterlee, County Durham, will face a trial by jury in November after he returns from a fourmonth tour of duty in Iraq.
Swindon Crown Court heard that the racially aggravated common assault related to an incident with Chinese man Steven Siu-Ming Wong.
The allegation of racially aggravated threatening behaviour involves Chinese Mei Tho Wong and Pakistani Parminderjit Singh Heer.
Releasing both men on unconditional bail, Judge Tom Longbotham said "There will have to be a trial, as far as you are concerned Best. That will await your return from Iraq."
Barton will be sentenced following the trial.
