AS the second half of the season kicked off, Marlborough approached the game against Marshfield with a new sense of urgency.

Victory would assist both teams in improving their league position and it was Marlborough who did enough to seal victory by 58 runs.

Batting first, Marlborough were indebted to the innings of 58 from Navid Ahmad, his first half century for the club. He faced 98 balls in an innings which contained seven fours, before he was stumped to become one of five victims for Jim Creed.

George Fox was more aggressive as he struck two fours and one huge six in a total of 35 and his contribution towards the end of the innings ensured that a total of 156 all out was obtained. Nathan Morgan made 12 and Vinay Sharma 15, but all the other batsmen managed to get out without reaching double figures.

Best of the bowling for Marshfield came from Jim Creed, with five for 43. Lamb, Pullin and White picked up a wicket each and there were two run outs.

When Marshfield batted they found the bowling tight and the out fielding to be as good as Marlborough have produced this season. Only two catches were put down and in both cases the mistake was quickly rectified.

Ben Head returned to some good form with five for 18 from 11 overs and George Fox continued to cause early damage taking three for 22. Nathan Morgan and Steve Jones picked up two fine catches each.

Vinay Sharma collected his first wicket for the club and Peter Mathias and Satish Byndoor bowled well without result. Marshfield were eventually bowled out for 98 in 41 overs.

Marlborough will be hoping this result will give them a kick start to the the second half of the season into good shape and help secure the team's place in the division..

This Saturday the 1st XI are home to Redmarley, who are currently top of the table and Marlborough skipper Tom Norris is hoping the change in fortune continues.
