Ref. 10225-01MARSHFIELD lifted their first silverware of the season when they defeated holders Potterne in an entertaining final of the Wiltshire 20 overs Cup on Tuesday night.
Home team Potterne batted first and chalked up 174 for seven, with Marshfield bowlers Ben White, Russell Lodge, Tom Lamb, Jim Creed and Dan Hill among the wicket-takers.
Creed then led the run chase for the visitors and finished on 87 not out as Marshfield reached their target in a close finish with five wickets down and four balls to spare.
Next highest scorer was James Williams who reached 28.
Marshfield player and secretary Ben White said: "Potterne has one of the tightest boundaries I've ever played and it was quite difficult to defend.
"Even mis-hits were flying off for fours and sixes.
"But it was a good game which went right to the wire and it was pleasing to see a lot of support for both sides."
White added that Marshfield, who have now won the trophy three times, were particularly pleased to defeat holders Potterne and claim their first honours of the season.
"It was really good to get a trophy back in the club because we hadn't won anything for a few years," he said.
"Our first team has not had a very good league campaign so far, so this win will hopefully spur us on the make progress in the league."
