FIRST pair Lee Mahony and Tim Gadenne set an example their team mates were unable to follow as Salisbury's A men's team slipped to defeat in their last Hampshire League match at home to Avenue of Havant on Saturday.
Lee and Tim won six sets out of six which is hard to do at Division One Level, an achievement that took on even greater merit in view of Salisbury's other two pairs tasting success in only two sets out of twelve.
The 6-3 defeat was Salisbury's fourth loss and with only one win to their name, relegation to Division Two for next summer seems likely once the table is complete.
In the Sarum League, Riverside teams in Division One improved their record with wins. Two for the A team narrowed the gap on title favourites Andover A, while the B team claimed a third victory of the season by beating last placed Downton A, but are still likely to be relegated with them.
A big change has taken place at the top of Division Two. Andover A followed up home and away wins over previous leaders Sandleheath with another against St. Leonards. Andover B now have a four point lead at the top over second placed Salisbury B each team having three matches left. Sandleheath have slipped to fourth.
Goodworth maintained their unbeaten run in Division Three with a draw at Chalke Valley, but are now only a point ahead of in-form Coombe Bissett. The Sarum Juniors Leagues have been completed. Winchester are Under 16 champions and Downton A won the Under 14 League.
