PLANS to put homes on the site of Reeder's Garage in the centre of Upavon have been refused by Kennet.
Members of the council's regulatory committee agreed on Thursday to support their officers' recommendation and turn down the application by Mike and Graham Reeder.
They wanted to put seven terraced homes on the High Street site and this brought an objection from Upavon Parish Council, which cited a survey in the village resulting in 87 per cent objecting to homes on the garage site.
Thirty-five letters of objection were received by Kennet stating it would result in the loss of a village amenity, leaving Upavon with just two pubs and one shop as local services, and could lead to more accidents at the adjacent junctions and create parking problems.
Objectors also said the proposed scheme for seven homes was over development of the site and would lead to loss of privacy for neighbouring homes.
