MAJOR roadworks on Old Derry Hill are likely to cause disruption to traffic between Chippenham and Devizes, and to businesses in the village.
The work will start on Monday.
It will begin at the Pewsham junction on the A4 and continue up the A342 Devizes road 500 metres beyond the village junction.
It will take between eight and nine weeks to complete and there will be temporary traffic lights.
The road will also have to be closed for one weekend for resurfacing work and traffic will have to be diverted through Calne.
The work will enable undergrowth to be cleared from verges, and workers will also be replacing the existing surface water drainage system, installing kerbing and renewing road markings.
Karen Chester, landlady of the Lansdowne Arms in Derry Hill, said closing the road for a whole weekend would inevitably impact on her business.
"As long as the signs are visible and make the situation clear, we are hoping it won't be too bad, although it will be during the busy school holidays," she said.
