IN response to the letter from G Hancock regarding solstice parking at Avebury, yes the parking over the Solstice is horrendous, many residents have suggested that a farmer's field be opened up for extra parking.
They were told that by doing that, and charging people to park, toilets would have to be provided, and liability insurance taken out.
As for the club opening up its car park, last year it was used and the mess left behind was disgusting, with even human waste to be cleared up.
Also the club had to close on the Saturday, so residents were forced to change their lives and stay in watching our driveways and gardens to stop people parking on them.
If the National Trust wants to advertise Avebury, then it should supply sufficient parking. The main car park was full by the Friday lunchtime.
This is not Stonehenge in the middle of a field. This is a living village and its residents would like more consideration. Would you like 3,000 hippies strolling down your street? That's what it felt like to us.
Many just want to see the sunrise. Others have no respect for Avebury or residents at all. The mess left behind, including syringes have to be cleared before our children can go out.
The police did a wonderful job of keeping the roads clear this year. Last year no car could enter the village because of the parking on both sides of the roads. Any emergency vehicle would never have got through.
The pub and shop do a roaring trade, they are the only ones who benefit from the weekend.
Our parish council tax pays for the big clean-up. Residents cannot even park without a permit yet the car park was free to those who could get in .
Stonehenge has it right, no tents, or sleeping bags and out after five hours.
Perhaps G Hancock would like to be on patrol next year, watching our gardens all night, as residents did.
