A HOUSE extension labelled 'a monstrosity' has been given the go-ahead.
Campaigners from the Warminster Open Spaces Protection Society opposed the plan claiming the extension on 77 Deverill Road would be too large and overbearing.
But the plan was agreed by West Wiltshire District Council's southern area committee on Thursday night. The decision had been previously deferred for councillors to visit the site.
Committee chairman Cllr Andrew Davis said: "Never in all my time as a councillor have I seen so much objection to a simple extension."
A questionnaire conducted by neighbour Ron MacMillan reveal-ed 86 per cent of residents opposed the plan but district councillors backed an earlier unanimous decision by Warminster Town Council.
