PUPILS at Paxcroft Primary in Trowbridge are making a pair of giant hares for the school grounds.
Modelled on an idea by sculptor Sophie Ryder, whose giant steel boxing hares have been seen in parks around Bath, the children have used wire to make cats, rabbits and rats for their latest art project, with two boxing hares as the centrepiece.
Art coordinator Nancy Wyles said the work on indigenous animals has inspired the children. She said: "They had to mould and solder the base wire structure, then it is coated in mudrock, and plaster, and now they are filing the sculpture and smoothing off the edges."
The children are now working around the clock to get the sculptures finished so they can be seen at the parents' open day on Wednesday.
