THERE will be thrills in the air and on the ground at a two-day show coming to Swin-don for the first time next month.
The event being held at Lydiard Park is called the Swindon Show. It is being organised by the same charity which ran the Wessex show and air pageant at Frome in Somerset earlier this year.
The show on Satur-day, August 2, and Sun-day, August 3, aims to rival the other large shows in the area including the Cirencester and Newbury shows.
If successful, it will become an annual event to be held in August.
The organisers say it will follow the same proven format as the Somerset show with family entertainment, events and live music running right through until midnight on Sun-day.
There will be air displays, with performances by the RAF from a Harrier jump jet; a Hawk trainer and a flypast by the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight with their Spitfire, Hurricane and Lan-caster, while aerobatic ace, Denny Dobson performing gut-wrenching manoeuvres in his diminutive Extra 300 aerobatic plane.
Meanwhile on the ground, crowds can see motorcycle stunt ace Jake Semtex and equestrian thrills from the Horsemen of the Apoca-lypse.
David McCance, the chairman of the show, said: "This is not an agricultural show like Newbury or Cirences-ter, we are keeping it as family orientated as possible.
"Organising the Wessex show is a big job and we weren't sure whether we would be able to cope with another show.
"But there are around 1.5 million people living in the region around Swindon and we are hoping for around 15,000 for this show and then we will see how it goes from there.
"It will be extremely exciting and a great day out."
There will also be a food hall, shopping mall and trade stalls.
Side shows will include classic vehicles and helicopter rides and live entertainment throughout the day with Butlin's Red Coats on tour.
On Saturday evening there will be entertainment past midnight with music from Abba Gold, Fred Wedlock, a Pink Floyd Tribute band and Wiltshire's own Eurovi-sion finalist Mimi.
Tickets are now on sale from the tourist information office in Regent Street at £5 for adults and £4 for children, senior citizens and disabled visitors.
A family ticket is £16 for two adults and up to three children. There is also a weekend camping ticket at £55, which includes entry both days for two adults and up to three children.
