I ENTIRELY agree with Rob Tomkins (letter, EA, July 3) regarding the council's kerbside collection scheme which is only for paper.
For many years, I have taken all my old newspapers, other waste paper, cans, bottles, etc, to Sainsbury's recycling area when I collect the weekly groceries.
The council's scheme is, therefore, superfluous as far as I am concerned.
Indeed, I consider it to be a waste of council tax payers money, since I note that the refuse vehicle now has to make two separate journeys (taking twice the time) to collect household waste and paper.
I would also refer to the letter from John Short (director, Swindon Services), (EA, June 26) in which he confirms that garden waste, which has to be put separately in green sacks, finishes up on a landfill site with the other refuse.
Why cannot the council compost it, as suggested in my letter published on June 12?
