Ref. 25633-37SWINDON CANCER APPEAL: DARTS players from Marlborough are aiming to support the Swindon Cancer Appeal with yet another fundraising event.
Just last month, members of three teams which play at Marlborough Town Football Club raised £400 for the appeal by holding a beetle drive.
Now they are busy organising a fundraising car boot sale.
The event will take place at the football ground in Elcot Lane, Marlbor-ough, on August 3.
Darts player Vanessa Hillier, who also chairs Macmillan's Marlborough fundraising branch, said: "We wanted to support the appeal because most of us on the committee know someone who has or had cancer.
"It's a very worthwhile cause because the money is going into local services."
Organisers are charging £5 per car and £10 per van for the sale.
Gates open for sellers at 8am, and members of the public will be allowed in from 9am until around 2pm.
Vanessa is also planning to hold a fete on the day, with a barbecue, bouncy castle and raffle.
The sale is being organised by a charity fundraising committee made up of members of three darts teams which play at the football club.
Besides supporting the Swindon Cancer Appeal, the players have raised money for Breakthrough Breast Cancer and Cardiac Research into the Young since the committee was formed three years ago.
Sandra Bull, 41, of Van Diemen's Close, Marlborough, secretary of the fundraising committee, said: "Hope-fully we will get a good turn out. We decided to support the appeal because you never know when you might need a Macmillan nurse."
Graziella Campisano, appeal manager at Macmillan's Swindon office, was delighted that the players had once again decided to support the appeal.
She said: "It's wonderful that they have taken the initiative to support the appeal for a second time.
"I wish them every success on the day, and thank them for their continued support."
Since its launch in March, the Evening Advertiser-backed Swindon Cancer Appeal has raised nearly £119,000. The target is to raise £600,000 in three years to pay for two Macmillan nurses and a consultant in palliative care for Swindon.
If anyone wants to reserve a space at the car boot sale they should call Vanessa on 01672 515958.
