Ref. 2564-722GIFT OF LIFE FEATURE: IT IS just over two years since sevenyear-old Jack Porter underwent a kidney transplant.

The youngster was diagnosed with hereditary Prune Belly Syndrome while still in the womb.

Doctors put his chances of survival at less than one per cent, and suggested a termination.

But his parents, Kim, 33, and Shaun, 38, were determined to give him the chance of life.

Now, after more than 30 operations, and three years of dialysis, Jack, from Covingham, is brimming with life.

He was put on the transplant register in 1998.

The operation was eventually carried out in June 2001 at Bristol Children's Hospital.

He has check ups every six weeks at Bristol, and has to take 26 tablets a day, but apart from that he leads a normal life.

He enjoys attending Covingham Primary School, and loves sports.

Last year, he took part in the Transplant Games in Loughborough, a sporting contest for children who have undergone transplant operations.

He is hoping to attend the games again this year.

His mother Kim said: "He's doing really well.

"He gets pains in his legs, but apart from that he is doing fine.

"He is hyper and enthusiastic from the moment he wakes up to the moment he goes to bed.

"It is wonderful."
