Ref. 19975-67AS CHAIRMAN of Broad Street Community Council, Les Horn frequently airs the concerns of people in the Broad Street and Manchester Road areas about the lack of parking spaces and illegal parking by non-residents.
He said: "There are lots of multiple occupancy houses here, houses divided into flats, and most of the people in those flats seem to have cars. But there are no more parking spaces for them.
"There are also boarding houses at which people stay all week, and they just park their cars nearby.
"And yet, the people starting the multiple occupancy businesses are given planning permission.
"We are given absolutely no help over parking."
Mr Horn claims a lot of the parking problems in the area would be solved if the residents' scheme was altered.
Currently, there are no restrictions between 6pm and 8am the next day.
Mr Horn says this allows non-residents to park their cars after work and leave them all night.
He would like to see the rules altered so that non-residents could not park until 8pm.
He added: "Currently, a person who comes home from work at 6pm can't find a parking space in their own street."
