THE new president of Swindon Lions club has been named as John Hamilton.
The retired local government officer, 77, from Shrivenham, took the chain of office from Kate Kells, who was only the second woman to hold the office since the club was formed in 1965.
This is Mr Hamilton's third period at the helm, having been president in 1982 and 1992. Last year the Swindon and West Swindon Lions Clubs merged to make their joint efforts more effective in both areas.
Mr Hamilton said: "Swindon Lions is part of an international organisation with 40,000 clubs in 171 countries, raising cash for local, national and international charities. We also provide practical service for needy groups and individuals where possible."
