SWINDON CANCER APPEALMotorola employees have raised thousands of pounds for the Swindon Cancer Appeal.
The appeal has been boosted by £7,500, thanks to a prize raffle held at the Swindon-based company.
Motorola's executive vice president Adrian Nemcek presented the cheque during an open day celebrating the firm's 75th anniversary.
Mr Nemcek said: "Last year over 2,000 people were diagnosed with cancer in the Swindon area alone and we believe it is important that cancer care is given the attention it deserves.
"Motorola is honoured to support Macmillan Cancer Relief and the Evening Advertiser in their efforts to help those affected by cancer in our local community."
Meanwhile, an employee from one of our appeal's staunchest supporters was collecting cash for Macmillan nurses again.
David Wray, Nationwide's head of agency development, visited the building society's 195 branches spread across the UK.
His tour made £8,600, which will be divided between Macmillan Cancer Relief and Swindon Therapy Centre for Multiple Sclerosis.
Mr Wray said: "The agents themselves organised various fund raising activities to support my tour as well as making me much needed coffees."
Appeal manager Graziella Campisano said she was delighted the appeal coffers were being boosted by such a large amount.
She said: "David and his colleagues' fantastic efforts will form part of the cheque we receive from Nationwide next year.
"This will include all their fundraising efforts for 2003 in aid of the Swindon Cancer Appeal.
"Motorola's generous donation is also hugely appreciated. These are much needed funds to take us nearer the target of raising £600,000 over three years to provide a consultant and two nurses to help treat cancer sufferers in the Swindon area.
"This money will help improve the quality of life of those living with cancer today by helping us to provide expert care and practical support."
Graziella added that she enjoys reading the numerous fundraising ideas that continue to pour into the appeal office.
